Internships

The Basque Museum & Cultural Center is pleased to offer internships (typically unpaid) in various areas of the Basque Museum & Cultural Center and Boiseko Ikastola. These internships are great on resumes, but also offer an opportunity to gain some specific skills including event organization, fundraising, leadership and supervision, volunteer coordination, varying levels of education, and much more. Below are specific internship opportunities, but please feel free to fill out the form below if there is something you are interested in that isn’t listed.

Student Intern to the Board of Directors

 The Basque Museum & Cultural Center Board of Directors advises staff and helps raise funds to support the organization’s mission to preserve, promote, and perpetuate Basque history and culture. The Intern to the Board of Directors assists the Board in developing and executing these efforts while also providing insight and perspective from younger demographics to help increase involvement and membership in the Basque Museum.

This internship runs annually from August to August and offers young individuals (ages 16–22) the chance to gain leadership experience, contribute their voice, and help shape the future of the Basque Museum & Cultural Center. The Intern to the Board is a valued participant in supporting the Museum’s mission of preserving, promoting, and perpetuating Basque history and culture.

Expectations & Time Commitment:

  • Attend monthly board meetings (generally 3rd Tuesday of the month):

      • May 19 6pm
      • June 16 6pm

  • Serve on at least one Committee:
    • Curatorial
    • Ikastola
    • Education
  • Help plan or volunteer with at least one major Museum event (e.g., Benefit Dinner, Running of the Bars, Winefest)
  • Represent the youth perspective
  • Help engage younger audiences with Museum programs.

What You’ll Do:

  • Share your ideas and experiences to help the Museum reach younger generations.
  • Assist with planning youth-oriented programming, social media outreach, or educational events.
  • Promote the Museum and Boiseko Ikastola in your school or community when possible.
  • Participate in volunteer opportunities such as event support, research projects, or creative campaigns.
  • Learn about nonprofit leadership, Basque heritage, and general museum operations.

Qualifications:

  • Enthusiasm, integrity, and a desire to learn.
  • Interest in Basque culture, community service, and leadership.
  • Willingness to collaborate and commit time.
  • A team-oriented attitude and respectful communication skills.

Support:

Youth Board Members are mentored by board and staff members and given opportunities to grow through hands-on experience, networking, and professional development.


Application Process:

Interested applicants should submit a resume and a video version of a cover letter expressing their desire to participate as an Intern to the Board of Directors of the Basque Museum & Cultural Center. The video should not be too long, but should answer the following questions:

  • Why are you applying to be an Intern to the Board of Directors of the BMCC?
  • What do you think you can bring to this organization or Board?
  • What do you hope to learn from the experience?

A Committee of the Board of Directors will evaluate applications, giving recommendations to the full Board of Directors. Once chosen, applicant will be offered the position in early November in order to attend the Board of Directors’ meeting in December (9th at 6pm).

Cenarrusa Internship at the Basque Museum (University of Idaho)

Through an endowment created in 2001 by Pete T. & Freda Cenarrusa and Roy & Miren Eiguren, the Cenarrusa Internship was created for students enrolled at the University of Idaho (and that will return to U of I after internship for at least one semester).

Interns typically are required to work on site at the Basque Museum in Boise for 25 hours per week. Criteria for applicants vary depending on each years’ needs at the Basque Museum.

Applications are typically open during Spring semester each year through the Handshake platform. For specific questions, please contact the Curatorial Department.

Education Interships at Boiseko Ikastola & Basque Museum (Boise State University)

Internships at Boiseko Ikastola are available for Basque language students or Basque language speakers at Boise State University. Education (early education or primary education) majors are preferred, but not required. Interested applicants should fill out the form below, noting that they are interested in interning at Boiseko Ikastola.

We also work the University of the Basque Country to host Global Training Interns at Boiseko Ikastola. These interns live in Boise and intern at the Ikastola for 6-10 months. For more information, please check here.
