San Juan Raku

Join us on the Basque Block, Tuesday, June 24 as we celebrate San Juan Eguna with a twist!

The general event is free to all. Drinks and food will be available for purchase at Leku Ona and you can bring them onto the Block – Basque-themed food encouraged! You are also welcome to bring your own appetizers to share with everyone! There will be music, photos and information on San Juan, and more! *Wear Basque traditional costumes or Basque-themed clothes to be entered into a raffle!* Feel free to bring your own chairs!

Those interested in participating in the Raku pottery have three options:

 

 

 

Come by the Basque Museum on Thursday, June 5 at 6pm to make your own art piece.
Marianne will walk you through it, take it and do the initial firing.
You then come down to San Juan Raku and finish and take it home!

The Basque Museum, with the help of artist Marianne Schaffeld and Ceramica (on Vista) will be making Raku pottery as well as celebrating this Basque cultural day.

The tradition in the Basque Country is to light bonfires of all sizes around the country and then jump over them to cleanse the spirit for the upcoming year.

 

 

 

 

Head to Ceramica and they will walk you through the process and get it ready for June 24.
You then come down to San Juan Raku and finish the process to make your work of art!
