Description
The Inner Strength exhibit catalog features a collection of 108 black and white photographs of Basque women. One hundred of these women emigrated from the Basque Country, while 10 of the women were born in the United States but were between the ages of 90 and 100 when their portraits were taken.
Black and white images of each woman, taken at their home or business by photographer Peter Oberlindacher, is accompanied by a biographical panel featuring excerpts from oral history interviews. In these 110 panels, the women share their most memorable homeland and immigration experiences, as well as stories of their integration into American society. The exhibit catalog has been translated into four languages, English, Euskara, Spanish, and French and also includes an introduction by social anthropologist, Begona Pecharroman, who conducted interviews nearly two decades ago that were the catalyst for the project.
