Picasso Presents Gernika is a historical docudrama written by Dr. Begoña Echeverria (Chino Basque Club) about the the child refugee crisis resulting from Hitler’s 1937 bombing of the Basque town Gernika and Picasso’s artistic response to the bombing (Guernica). The script weaves primary source material and documentation with imaginative fiction. Echeverria partnered with theatre scholar, Dr. Annika Speer, to develop and produce a staged reading of the play followed by a film. This presentation focuses on the artistic craft of staging history.
