An Evening with Anne Rearick

November 20 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Join us at the museum November 20 at 6:30 pm for a special evening with Anne Rearick as she presents her beautiful book of photography, Gure Bazterrak. Signed books will be available for purchase!

Anne Rearick’s vision is documentary in nature, but also uniquely personal. Rearick works slowly, often photographing over the course of years and in the process deepens her relationship to people and place. In doing so, Rearick endeavors to portray and celebrate the full range of daily experience of her subjects and in many respects stands with her subjects instead of in front of them.

Rearick received a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Massachusetts College of Art in 1990 and has worked as a photographer and teacher for the past 33 years. She has been the recipient of several awards and grants, most notably a Guggenheim fellowship to photograph the culture of amateur boxing; the European Mosaique prize to explore rural communities of Italy and Scotland; the Prix Roger Pic for her work in townships in post-apartheid South Africa; a Fulbright fellowship to the Basque Country of France; two New England Foundation for the Arts/Mass Cultural Council grants; and most recently, a Parkhill Foundation Grant to study Chilean Cinema.

Six monographs of Rearick’s photographs have been published: Gure Bazterrak, in 2024; You Will Look to the Mountains, in 2023; True West, in 2019; Sète 17 in 2017; Township, in 2016; and Miresicoletea on the Pays Basque in 2003.

Public Collections include the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris, the Centre Nationale de L’Audiovisuel in Luxembourg, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Anne Rearick has been a member of Agence VU since 1993 and is represented by Galerie Clémentine de la Féronnière in Paris.
