(July 2020 – Present)
The exhibition, Basques in California, dives into the deep history of Basques in California, exploring the many ways Basques have had a hand in the shaping of modern California. Today, California is home to the largest population of Basques, due in part to the long history of Basques in the state. The exhibit starts with exploration in the 1500s and ends in present day California, featuring a Basque presence throughout the state’s history. This exhibit is based on the research and writings of Asun Garikano as well as contributions from other researchers and scholars.
The BMCC brings this exhibit our galleries in collaboration with the Autonomous Basque Government and the North American Basque Organization (NABO).
